About the position

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Technical Writer to provide essential support to the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)), specifically assisting the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Mission Capabilities (ASD(MC)) and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Prototypes & Experiments (DASD(P&E)). This position is based in Arlington, VA, within the National Capital Region, close to the Pentagon and Crystal City. The role is critical as it involves working on programs that are vital to national defense and security, contributing to the development and demonstration of innovative concepts that address the priorities of Multi-Service and Combatant Commands within the Department of Defense. As a Technical Writer, your primary responsibilities will include producing Integrated Assessment Plans for Rapid Defense Experimentation Reserve (RDER) projects. These plans are crucial as they encapsulate the objectives, data collection requirements, test plans, test data, test results, and conclusions necessary to clarify the features, benefits, and limitations of various prototypes. You will ensure that all relevant information is included, enabling readers to quickly grasp the purpose, performance, and utility of the capabilities under review. This role requires a high level of technical writing proficiency, as well as the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise documents that meet the needs of a specialized audience. Responsibilities

  • Produce Integrated Assessment Plans for Rapid Defense Experimentation Reserve (RDER) projects.
  • Capture objectives, data collection requirements, test plans, test data, test results, and conclusions in the Integrated Assessment Plans.
  • Summarize products/documents that clarify the prototype's features, benefits, and limitations.
  • Ensure all necessary information is included for readers to understand the purpose, performance, and utility of the capability under review.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' experience as a technical writer.
  • Experience with classified programs.
  • Technical familiarity with System Requirements, Key Performance Parameters (KPPs), Measures of Performance (MOPs), Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs), and minimum acceptable/desired system capabilities.
  • Efficiency in generating PowerPoint Briefs and Assessments.
  • Operational analyst background.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to synthesize large volumes of information into concise, well-informed written products.
  • Experience writing for an OSD audience is strongly preferred.
  • Military or OSD experience.
