About the position

The Technical Writing Editor will support the Joint Navigation Warfare Center (JNWC) contract, contributing to the Department of Defense's navigation warfare mission. This role involves ensuring the quality and clarity of technical documentation, producing illustrations, and integrating various media for effective communication. The editor will work closely with team members and stakeholders to create high-quality publications that meet DoD standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review content of technical engineering documentation for quality.
  • Produce technical engineering and scientific illustrations for presentations and/or publication.
  • Ensure that documents follow the style laid out in the style guide.
  • Create documents for publication using input from team members, stakeholders, and research sources.
  • Write various technical articles, reports, brochures, and manuals for documentation.
  • Integrate graphics, text, and other media to create presentations and publications.
  • Coordinate production of documents and materials.
  • Proofread and edit correspondence, documents, and presentations to ensure compliance with DoD standards.
  • Assist content providers in identifying appropriate mediums and formats for presentations and publications.
  • Oversee preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
  • Conduct quality reviews of materials and ensure high-quality content.
  • Gather information, interview subject matter experts, and conduct research to convey technical material concisely.

Requirements

  • 5 years of relevant experience, multiple levels needed.
  • Prior editing experience with DoD or government agencies preferred.
  • BA/BS in English, communications, journalism, computer science, web design, engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC), Certified Technical Professional (CTP) or equivalent preferred.
  • Current SECRET clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with technical documentation in a military context.
  • Familiarity with graphic design software.
  • Knowledge of navigation warfare concepts.
