About The Position

This entry-level position at Atlanta Gas Light involves supporting field operations related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of gas mains and service lines. The role includes a variety of tasks such as meter reading, corrosion inspections, and assisting with maintenance activities, all while adhering to safety practices and regulatory guidelines. Employees will work as part of a crew and will have opportunities for automatic progression in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Mechanical aptitude
• Basic knowledge and use of hand tools and equipment
• Ability to pass basic skills and knowledge assessments
• Valid Driver's License

Nice To Haves

• Field operations experience including distribution crew work
• Experience with heavy equipment operation
• Technical school training and certification
• Welding experience or certification
• Commercial driver's license or permit

Responsibilities

• Efficiently works a route to complete customer and compliance orders in a timely manner.
• Observes all safety requirements and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance.
• Captures documentation in the Mobile Data Terminal and recognizes abnormal operating conditions.
• Assists in connecting and disconnecting gas service, manually turning meters on and off.
• Conducts investigations of high bill complaints and performs meter reading validation.
• Performs regular meter inspections, paints, and maintenance of gas systems.
• Responds to customer inquiries and provides assistance as needed.
• Operates basic equipment and tools for distribution activities.
• Maintains traffic control and landscaping as part of general maintenance.
• Performs digging, shoring, repairing leaks, and testing pipes.
• Ensures truck is stocked with necessary equipment and supplies.
• Operates Automated Dispatch system for meter reads and service turn-offs.
• Identifies abnormal operating conditions and takes appropriate actions.
• Performs simple sniff tests to detect gas leaks.
• Completes other job-related duties as required.
