About the position

The Technician, Acute Care II position at Kaiser Permanente involves providing comprehensive patient care services under the direction of a registered nurse (RN). This role is critical in ensuring the safety and comfort of both adult and pediatric patients in the Acute Care Center (ACC). The technician will be responsible for responding to medical emergencies and cardiac arrests in collaboration with the ACC response team, making it essential to have a strong foundation in emergency care procedures. Key responsibilities include measuring, reporting, interpreting, and recording vital signs and cardiac rhythms for assigned patients in the Emergency Department (ED) and during diagnostic imaging procedures. The technician will also be tasked with obtaining venous samples, processing specimens, and performing peripheral intravenous catheter insertions. Providing comfort measures, transporting and ambulating patients, and initiating C-spine immobilization are also part of the role. The technician will apply splints and various orthopedic soft goods, clean and irrigate wounds, and apply clean and sterile dressings as needed. In addition to these tasks, the technician will assist with respiratory care by setting up nasal cannulas, venti-masks, and non-rebreathers, as well as prepping and monitoring patients for emergency procedures. Ongoing monitoring and care for restrained patients, cleaning equipment and work areas, and stocking medical/surgical supplies are also essential duties. The technician may be required to process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system in certain areas and perform other related duties as assigned. This position is full-time, with a day shift schedule, and is located in Jonesboro, GA.

Responsibilities

  • Measure, report, interpret, and record vital signs and cardiac rhythm for assigned patients in the ED and during diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Obtain venous samples and process specimens.
  • Perform peripheral intravenous catheter insertion.
  • Provide comfort measures, transport, and ambulate patients.
  • Initiate C-spine immobilization, including rigid cervical collar and backboard.
  • Apply splints and various orthopedic soft goods.
  • Clean and irrigate wounds and apply clean and sterile dressings.
  • Assist with respiratory care: set up nasal cannula, venti-mask, and non-rebreather.
  • Assist in prepping and monitoring patients for emergency procedures.
  • Perform adult male and female catheterization.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and care for restrained patients.
  • Clean equipment and work area.
  • Stock medical/surgical supplies.
  • Provide basic response to medical emergencies within the CMC.
  • Respond as a member of the ACC Medical Emergency Response team.

Requirements

  • Minimum two (2) years recent experience as a Paramedic or Licensed Practical Nurse OR minimum two (2) years as an Emergency Department Tech in an Emergency Department.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent clinical skills including IV insertion, venipuncture, arrhythmia recognition, and orthopedic splinting and casting.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
