About the position

This position is responsible for providing design support to engineers for various projects including water, wastewater, stormwater, floodplain, drainage, transportation, and facility projects. The role involves working from detailed sketches or redlines to prepare plans, profiles, and detailed drawings using Microstation. The candidate will develop construction documents that illustrate topographical contours, elevations, profiles, and cross-sections, as well as draft design engineering drawings. It is essential to understand and utilize established company standards for drafting, which include layer names, line and character styles, and the naming conventions for drawings and file layouts. The individual will analyze sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine the best approach for developing and completing drawings with minimal supervision. Regular communication with Project Managers is crucial to inform them of progress on assigned projects and to request additional work when necessary. Maintaining an organized work area is important to ensure that project information is accessible to other team members. The position requires flexibility in work assignments and the ability to adapt to changes in project needs on short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare plans, profiles, and detail drawings in Microstation from detailed sketches or redlines.
  • Develop construction documents showing topographical contours, elevations, profiles, and cross-sections.
  • Create draft design engineering drawings according to established company standards.
  • Analyze sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine the best approach for developing drawings.
  • Inform Project Manager(s) of progress on assigned projects and request additional work as needed.
  • Maintain an organized work area for easy access to project information by team members.
  • Be flexible in work assignments and adapt to changes in project needs.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Computer-Aided Design or technology with a civil specialization is preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge in AutoCAD, Microstation, ProjectWise, GeoPak, and/or InRoads.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with colleagues, clients, and public agency officials.
  • Self-starter and highly motivated individual.
  • Ability to work interdependently within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to changes in work assignments on short notice.
  • Ability to work from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime.
