About the position

The Technician - General Accounting position at Jeffco Public Schools involves providing essential accounting services for the Food Service department. The role focuses on reviewing, analyzing, and generating accounting entries related to inventory, entitlements, and financial monitoring. The technician will utilize the PeopleSoft system for data analysis and ensure accurate financial reporting for the district's food services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting services for Food Service by reviewing, analyzing, and generating accounting entries for inventory, entitlements, CDE billings, revenues and expenditures.
  • Assist the Food Service department in the overall financial monitoring of the fund.
  • Utilize PeopleSoft system to create and modify queries used for analysis.
  • Prepare various journal entries for food service charges, payments, and corrections.
  • Prepare complex journal entries for all Food Service revenues generated by schools, including online payments and cash collections.
  • Complete journals and billings for internal and external services provided by the Food and Nutrition Department.
  • Prepare complex journal entries for inventory movement and shipping.
  • Review monthly CDE claim report for meal count reimbursement, snacks, and summer feeding programs.
  • Prepare monthly journal entry to record site inventory values.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts related to the Food Services Fund.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for Food Service depository account.
  • Order and send all banking supplies for district accounts.
  • Research questions from financial reviews and make journal corrections as necessary.
  • Help Food Services with the collection for NSF checks.
  • Prepare quarterly sales tax return for the Catering Cart and Stadium concessions.
  • Calculate reprocessed commodity year-end entry.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required, plus post-secondary coursework equivalent to three years of college or an Associate Degree related to the position.
  • 2 years experience in accounting and financial systems.
  • Strong accounting knowledge and analytical experience.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and spreadsheets).
  • Operating knowledge of computerized accounting systems at time of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PeopleSoft financials and Horizon software programs.
