About the position

The Technician I - Data Center Operations at GEICO is responsible for the installation and maintenance of data center equipment, ensuring the smooth functioning of the data center infrastructure. This role is crucial in supporting the company's transition to a tech organization focused on engineering excellence, while fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will possess strong troubleshooting skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality technology services in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install various hardware as required
  • Complete service orders in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform routine operational maintenance support and hardware maintenance
  • Respond to customer requests quickly and resolve technical problems effectively
  • Participate in coordinated and scheduled maintenance activities with multiple parties in multiple locations, following standard procedures
  • Coordinate with other technical teams to complete various tasks, requests, and/or projects
  • Frequently lift or move equipment and material weighing up to 50 pounds for various needs
  • Engage in physical data center activities such as planning and tracking capacity, rack deployment, rack cabling, hardware and software troubleshooting, and rack decommissioning
  • Maintain service level agreements through implementation of proactive issue detection and reporting

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience working in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to write concise and accurate reports
  • Ability to appropriately escalate data center incidents and respond to alarms
  • Effective communication skills with customers and internal staff
  • Ability to learn quickly and address issues in a Mission Critical 24×7 environment
  • Schedule flexibility with ability to work non-standard business hours
  • Strong work ethic and accountability
  • Ability to work independently and follow all escalation procedures regarding critical or emergency situations
  • Ability to operate in and promote a rigorous process-driven team environment
  • Ability to logically analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to effectively multi-task while assisting customers and working on multiple projects
  • Familiarity with computer systems and software programs such as MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook
  • Ability to climb and balance
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, and crawl
  • Experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing computer, server, and network hardware
  • Familiarity with infrastructure modification projects
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting/installing/testing circuits
  • Familiarity with installation, testing, and modification of cross-connects per documented procedures with accurate cable management
  • Experience installing low voltage cable in active data center environment
  • Familiarity with opening and closing tasks within ticketing system
  • Familiarity with Hard Drive Sanitation Software (Blancco)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity of Network tools (Infoblox, Lantronix)
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps
  • Understanding of technical documentation creation
  • Familiarity of Data Center equipment
  • Client hardware troubleshooting including diagnosis and/or replacement, cybersecurity requirements, client architecture
  • Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and concepts
  • Excellent research, decision-making and organizational skills
  • Excellent customer facing skills
  • Familiarity with standards: BICSI, EIA, TIA, NEC
