About the position

Moseley Technical Services, Inc. is seeking an Insulation / Painting Technician II - C to join our team in Merritt Island, Florida. This contract position is integral to our mission of supporting the Aerospace, Defense, Commercial, and Government sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to the application of coatings and thermal protection systems on aerospace components, particularly the New Glenn vehicle. This role requires a strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team environment. The technician will be involved in reviewing, editing, and following test procedures and processes, operating test facilities and ground support equipment, and collaborating with engineers on design concepts and facility improvements. The role also includes planning and executing assembly for complex mechanical systems, working with hazardous chemicals and high-pressure systems, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvements to promote workplace safety. The technician will perform painting and sealing processes, including surface preparation, masking, application, and chemical handling, as well as applying thermal protection systems (TPS) onto flight hardware. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for checking completed products for conformance to specifications and defects, ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with established safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review, edit, and follow test procedures and processes.
  • Operation of test facility and ground support equipment.
  • Work with engineers on design concepts and facility improvements.
  • Plan and execute assembly for complex mechanical systems.
  • Work with hazardous chemicals and high pressure systems.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvements to promote workplace safety.
  • Paint and seal processes on the New Glenn vehicle, including surface preparation, masking, application, and chemicals handling.
  • Perform hand and spray-on applications of paints and foam insulation onto flight hardware.
  • Application of logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, based on specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, and patterns.
  • Application of thermal protection systems (TPS) onto New Glenn flight hardware.
  • Perform surface preparation, fixturing, adhesive application, gap filling, and vacuum bagging of large structures.
  • Adhere to equipment requirements, method, and sequences of operation to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as sealants, primers, RTV adhesives, solvents, foam insulation, and consumable materials.
  • Understand, follow, and complete work instructions, and contribute to safety, quality, process, and work instruction continuous improvement.
  • Check completed products for conformance to specifications and for defects.
  • Ability to support scheduled work shift, overtime, and weekends if/when vital.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in aerospace coating and thermal protection applications
  • Expertise in one or more of the following: primer/topcoat spray-out and hand application, spray/molded foam insulation applications, conversion coating applications, sealant applications, adhesive bonding, RTV bonding of TPS, ablative TPS materials, foam insulation applications, pressure sensitive adhesive applications, vacuum bagging, thermal blankets, applying sealants, conversion coatings, primers, adhesives, and other special finishes
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for chemicals handling
  • Must be able to be respirator qualified
  • Ability to work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse teams in a dynamic environment displaying strong work ethic with close attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures
  • Basic computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to climb ladders/stairs and work in small, restricted areas
  • Perform repetitive work including lifting of heavy items, >50lbs
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ Years of experience working with aerospace thermal protection systems or coatings
  • Industry certification, trade school training and/or degree in related field
  • Demonstrated success as a 'hands-on' technical leader
