About the position

The Metrology Technician III position at Merritt Island, FL, is a contract role that requires skilled technicians to perform inspection surveys using advanced metrology equipment such as Laser trackers, Creaform Metrascan, Laser radar, and GSI photogrammetry (D850). The technicians will be expected to work independently without written instructions or methodologies in emergent situations, collaborating with Blue Origin personnel to meet survey requirements. The survey goals and key features will be provided in writing, and technicians will have access to report templates and previous reports as guides for their work. The position involves conducting work onsite at Merritt Island, FL, and requires a high level of expertise in metrology and inspection processes. The responsibilities of the Metrology Technician III include programming, setting up, and operating laser trackers, performing manual layout inspections using design data for machined, made, and received components, and conducting first article inspections. Technicians will also be responsible for in-process, final, and receiving inspections, providing feedback to machinists, technicians, and engineers based on dimensional data, and documenting, tracking, and completing discrepancy reports. Additionally, technicians will need to maintain and track all inspection equipment calibrations and support process improvement initiatives while ensuring configuration control on files and job records. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy in all inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trained metrology technicians who can perform inspection surveys using Laser tracker, Creaform Metrascan, Laser radar, and GSI photogrammetry (D850).
  • Work without written instruction/methodology (emergent work) in collaboration with Blue Origin personnel to fulfill survey requirements.
  • Program, setup, and operate laser trackers.
  • Perform manual layout using design data to inspect machined, made, and received components.
  • Conduct first article inspections.
  • Perform in-process, final, and receiving inspections.
  • Provide feedback to machinists, technicians, and engineers with dimensional data.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in SA (Spatial Analyzer) to complete surveys independently using survey instructions/templates/MPs.
  • Experience making reports in SA or Microsoft Excel from survey data.
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and applying GD&T to capture data that fulfills survey requirements.
  • Trained metrology technicians who can perform inspection surveys using Laser tracker, Creaform Metrascan, Laser radar, and GSI photogrammetry (D850).
