About the position

The Senior IT Technician at Austin Community College is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, installing, and supporting networked servers, computer systems, and peripheral equipment in a computer lab environment. This role provides professional-level network support, assists faculty, staff, and students, and ensures system stability and accessibility while implementing solutions to technical issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support, training, and assistance to students, faculty, and staff in a computer lab environment.
  • Performs computer troubleshooting to diagnose system problems and analyzes hardware and software functionality.
  • Monitors Active Directory domain environment and resolves configuration and connectivity issues.
  • Maintains and updates workstations, servers, mobile devices, and peripherals; researches and tests new software.
  • Creates and tests user accounts and creates default user templates.
  • Enrolls users in tutorial applications and monitors utilization trends and backup procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries from users and follows up to ensure system stability and functionality.
  • Monitors physical security of computer lab assets and controls access to premises.
  • Reports technical problems needing policy or procedure improvements.
  • Provides technical support to assist in training on software applications usage.
  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, and presents reports for technical and administrative information.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots printers and may use control software for advanced printing operations.
  • May use remote access tools to extend service to remote equipment.
  • Sets up and breaks down computers and related equipment in labs.
  • May advise on equipment recommendations and purchases.

Requirements

  • Two years related work experience.
  • High school diploma or educational equivalent.
  • Knowledge of administration and maintenance principles of network servers and software applications.
  • Understanding of network hardware, software, and peripheral equipment troubleshooting techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of programming languages.
  • Knowledge of assistive hardware and software technologies.
