About the position

The MRI Technologist I is responsible for performing MRI procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. This role involves operating MRI scanners and associated equipment proficiently, preparing patients for procedures, and ensuring the technical quality of images. The technologist will also assist in medical emergencies and maintain safety standards while working in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI procedures according to departmental protocols and standards.
  • Operate MRI scanners and associated equipment with proficiency.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by providing full explanations and documenting on appropriate worksheets.
  • Interview patients to obtain complete medical histories.
  • Review EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history for in-patients, ER, and outpatients.
  • Record medical history on requisitions and correlate test results with exams being performed.
  • Evaluate technical quality of images and consult with a Radiologist if needed.
  • Inform nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition.
  • Assist in 'code blue' procedures during medical emergencies.
  • Perform MRI scanning and assist Physicians/PA during invasive procedures.
  • Follow infection control policies and procedures during invasive procedures.
  • Obtain medication or contrast material as directed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills to work safely in environments with exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Document contrast administration in the MAR and keep the area stocked.
  • Assist other medical personnel during exams or services in conjunction with MRI scans.
  • Maintain knowledge of MRI safety requirements for staff and patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program required.
  • ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, ARRT or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from the ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI required within one year of hire.
