About the position

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a mid-level Technology Automation Engineer to join our Access Elevation Services (AES) team. This role is integral to the National IT Identity & Access Management (IAM) initiative, focusing on delivering automation solutions that streamline and transform privileged access elevation systems. As a Technology Automation Engineer, you will work within a hybrid Kanban methodology environment, collaborating closely with the AES Service Owner to design, configure, and deploy automated solutions. Your primary responsibility will be to replace and enhance manual processes, augment technology delivery, and strengthen security practices related to privileged access management. This position is dedicated to the delivery of automation, ensuring that our systems are efficient and secure. In this role, you will engage with customers, service partners, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to gather and define automation requirements. You will collaborate with peer Automation Engineers to design and develop script automation that enhances server life cycles, business process workflows, privileged access elevation capabilities, and system integration solutions. Your work will involve designing, programming, modeling, and testing automated systems, as well as developing strategies and frameworks for automation improvements. You will also document processes, procedures, and training materials for AES staff and stakeholders, ensuring that knowledge is shared and maintained within the team. Additionally, you will attend weekly stand-up meetings and periodic team meetings to discuss progress and challenges. Continuous improvement will be a key focus, as you will work to drive cost reduction activities and build domain knowledge within the team. As a senior member of the team, you will provide technical mentorship to junior team members, including conducting code reviews to ensure high-quality automation solutions are delivered.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the AES Service Owner to identify, prioritize, and plan delivery of automation solutions.
  • Engage with customers/service partners, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to gather and define automation requirements.
  • Collaborate with peer Automation Engineers to design and develop script automation for enhancing server life cycles and business process workflows.
  • Design, program, model, and test automated systems.
  • Develop automation improvements, strategies, and frameworks.
  • Apply programming skills to deliver automation solutions for rapidly changing design needs.
  • Document processes, procedures, and training materials for AES staff and stakeholders.
  • Attend weekly stand-up meetings and periodic team meetings.
  • Work to continually improve processes, drive cost reduction activities, and build domain knowledge.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior team members, including code reviews.

Requirements

  • Typically requires at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate degree in Information Technology or closely related field from a technical/vocational school, an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of directly related education and/or experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, JavaScript, Perl, PHP, PowerShell, and Python.
  • A thorough understanding of information security privileged access principles; CISSP Certification preferred.
  • Experience delivering incremental changes using Kanban development methodology, preferred.
  • Solid understanding of operating system principles.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communications skills and ability to adjust to a wide array of audiences.
  • Self-initiative, detail-oriented, and capable of bringing new ideas to the table.
  • Ability to adapt and succeed in a rapidly changing environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • CISSP Certification preferred.
  • Experience with Kanban development methodology preferred.
