About the position

As Technology Counsel at Bazaarvoice, you will serve as the primary legal partner for the product and engineering teams globally. This role requires a sophisticated understanding of SaaS products, social media platforms, digital commerce, security, data science, and ML/AI, along with legal expertise in privacy, software licensing, intermediary liability, and intellectual property protection. You will collaborate closely with teams to ensure ongoing legal and regulatory compliance while supporting new product and feature development, enabling rapid innovation while minimizing risk exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal advice on all technology-related matters, including software development, contracts, cloud computing, intellectual property, data privacy, and open-source licensing.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of technology-related agreements, including SaaS, vendor, and partnership agreements.
  • Advise on the protection and enforcement of the company's intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and cybersecurity regulations, working closely with IT, Security, Privacy, and compliance teams.
  • Stay current with relevant technology laws and regulations, providing guidance to ensure compliance with applicable legal standards.
  • Identify potential legal risks related to technology projects and initiatives, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
  • Work closely with various departments, including IT, security, product development, engineering, sales, and business development, to provide legal support on technology-driven projects.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and updating of company policies related to technology, data privacy, artificial intelligence, open-source licensing, and intellectual property.
  • Provide training to employees on relevant legal topics, including technology contracts, intellectual property protection, and data privacy.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in at least one state.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with significant experience in technology law, either in-house or at a law firm.
  • Strong understanding of intellectual property law, data privacy, cybersecurity, and software licensing.
  • Experience negotiating complex technology contracts and agreements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
