About the position

The City of Gainesville is seeking a visionary Technology Director to lead the transformation of its IT capabilities by insourcing IT support and services. This role involves establishing a dedicated technology department, overseeing the transition of technology operations, and ensuring effective management and support across all City departments. The Director will play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of City services through strategic IT initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the transition planning efforts to insource the City's IT support and services.
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of IT professionals to deliver exceptional service and support.
  • Collaborate with City departments to understand their needs and provide tailored IT solutions.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Technology Department, ensuring efficient management of technology services.
  • Develop and maintain policies to protect the security of City data and the privacy of residents.
  • Create and maintain a strategic plan for technology infrastructure and applications to support City goals.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on technology-related matters to City staff.
  • Prepare and monitor the annual departmental budget and provide resource requirements for strategic projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, business, or related field.
  • Ten years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience in technology, including five years in a managerial capacity.
  • Proven experience in IT leadership, preferably in a government or public sector environment.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of successful transitions or implementations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of non-supervisory work experience.
  • Certified in ITIL® Foundations or willingness to be trained in ITIL® Foundations.
  • Experience in a government environment.
