About the position

The Technology Instructor position is a part-time role within the City of Miami's Parks & Recreation Department. The instructor is responsible for providing technology education and support to students, focusing on basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft applications. The role involves developing and implementing a technology-based curriculum, delivering training programs, and providing technical support to enhance student learning and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a technology-based curriculum in a community-based environment.
  • Coordinate and deliver a variety of computer, phone, software, and application training programs.
  • Teach 'Getting to Know your Computer' curriculum along with other advanced topics.
  • Develop creative teaching and learning strategies to optimize student performance.
  • Design and administer assessment instruments to determine the effectiveness of trainings.
  • Respond to community requests for training and provide technical support as needed.
  • Organize and prepare training materials including course outlines, training schedules, lesson plans, and training aids.
  • Attend meetings, forums, and workshops related to training requirements.
  • Travel to, from, and between sites as required by the class schedule.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and prepare monthly, annual, and special reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six months of experience conducting trainings for groups or leading educational programming.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic computer troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid driver's license (Class E or equivalent) from any state.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or Creole is preferred.
  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
