About the position

The Housing Navigator is a key role within the Homeless Alliance, embedded at TEEM, focused on providing comprehensive support to individuals experiencing homelessness. This position involves home-based case management, resource referrals, and advocacy to connect clients with emergency and permanent housing solutions. The Housing Navigator collaborates with community partners to create a network of services that ensure clients achieve stability before discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients in the office at TEEM to discuss housing needs and options.
  • Connect clients to available subsidies when eligible.
  • Provide field-based/mobile case management services using evidence-based practices such as intensive case management, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, and Housing First practices.
  • Pursue an engagement process to build a relationship of trust and support with clients.
  • Maintain precise and accurate documentation of case management services, including client files and entries into the program database (HMIS).
  • Assist participants with completing lease agreements and obtaining supportive documents such as identification and social security cards.
  • Assist tenants in accessing and maintaining entitlements and benefits.
  • Facilitate Coordinated Case Management with Homeless Alliance agencies.
  • Facilitate groups and activities with program participants.
  • Coordinate supportive activities with Homeless Alliance partners, including employment assistance programs and job readiness training.
  • Advocate for needed services and assist tenants in meeting the obligations of tenancy.
  • Transport clients as needed.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with community resources.

Requirements

  • Dedicated to ending homelessness in Oklahoma City with a sense of urgency.
  • Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals with urgent multiple case management and health needs.
  • Strong advocacy skills and communication skills (writing, reading, listening, speaking).
  • Ability to set and observe appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Well-developed decision-making skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to excel in a diverse, collaborative team environment.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm in demanding situations.
  • Knowledge of community resources available in Oklahoma City.
  • Ability to meet a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Undergraduate degree in social work or behavioral science preferred.
  • Two plus years of previous experience in adult case management.
  • ODMHSAS Case Management Certification and SOAR Training preferred.
