About the position

The Tele-Psychologist position at Wexford Health involves providing tele-psychological services to patients in a correctional facility. The role focuses on assessment, consultation, and psychotherapeutic interventions, ensuring that patients receive quality mental health care. The psychologist will work under the supervision of a designated manager and will be responsible for conducting evaluations, preparing treatment plans, and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings. This position is crucial in supporting the mental health of incarcerated individuals and contributing to their rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychological screening, assessment, and evaluations on all patients referred for examination and treatment.
  • Prepare treatment plans for patients requiring specialized therapy.
  • Provide clinical consultation and support to vendor Qualified Mental Health Professionals.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Serve as a member or leader of the site Crisis Intervention Team, providing assessments and brief therapy to patients in crisis.
  • Provide clinical evaluation for treatment needs of patients referred by medical, counseling, security, or other facility staff.
  • Provide clinical supervision of the facility Crisis Team, including training and consultation to team members.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling, brief therapy, and group therapy as indicated for individuals in custody.
  • Consult with site staff and administration on treatment of specific patients and broader program issues.
  • Complete comprehensive psychosocial history on each admission to the Mental Health Unit.
  • Provide individual and group therapy for patients identified through evaluation or referrals.
  • Administer, score, and interpret psychological testing in appropriate cases.
  • Conduct discharge planning for seriously mentally ill patients returning to the community.
  • Document in accordance with unit policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to Mental Health Unit development and evaluation.
  • Conduct staff training and development, assisting in the design of treatment techniques and programs.
  • Participate in in-service programs and assist in orientation of new staff.
  • Monitor provision of crisis services, reviewing documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with the site consulting psychiatrist for timely evaluations and medication management.
  • Monitor clinical condition and treatment of special patient populations as necessary.
  • Maintain documentation on all mental health contacts, submitting monthly summary reports as required.
  • Provide services for patients needing transfer to Mental Health facilities, including court hearing testimony if needed.
  • Participate in treatment programming and planning, discussing problem cases and monitoring medication.
  • Provide mental health services in compliance with all Administrative Directives and Departmental Rules.
  • Provide staff training on mental health issues, crisis intervention, and related topics.
  • Participate in Behavioral Health Grand Rounds as directed.

Requirements

  • Current license in the State of Illinois as Clinical Psychologist.
  • Current CPR certification required if on-site, accepted from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute.
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in working in a clinical setting as a psychologist or licensed mental health professional.
  • Prior experience with the use of electronic medical record systems.
