About the position

The Telecommunication Installation Project Senior Manager at the University of Michigan is responsible for overseeing and managing all phases of complex telecommunications projects involving significant connections. This role combines management, technical expertise, and financial responsibilities to ensure user satisfaction and project continuity across multiple campuses. The position requires effective coordination of resources, risk management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coordinate, and implement multiple complex projects for new construction or major renovations of communication systems involving over 100 connections.
  • Design and recommend cost-effective solutions, including gathering information for project scope and preparing cost and time estimates.
  • Track project milestones, provide status reports, and ensure timely delivery of services while maintaining user satisfaction.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, managing the triple constraint of scope, schedule, and budget throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Build and manage relationships with vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with team members and management to influence decision-making and achieve successful project completion.
  • Stay current with relevant technologies and trends, developing best practices and sharing knowledge with team members.
  • Mentor and train staff, fostering relationships with customers and facilitating the resolution of issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer systems, engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in the information technology industry.
  • Experience leading project teams to meet customer expectations and managing client/vendor relationships.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new service technologies quickly and communicate technical information clearly.
