About the position

The Telecom Technician at Rex Moore Group, Inc. plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of telecommunication systems. This position involves a variety of tasks including the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various components of telecommunication systems such as cables, routers, and other networking equipment. The technician will work both independently and collaboratively within a team to ensure that the telecommunication infrastructure adheres to technical specifications and industry standards. In this role, the technician will direct and collaborate with journeymen and helpers, plan work, and be responsible for the necessary materials and tools. The technician is expected to install all work effectively and in a neat and workmanlike manner. Troubleshooting of all telecommunication systems is a key responsibility, as is monitoring the progress of work. The technician will also be involved in layout work from blueprints, shop drawings, and schematics, covering all phases of telecom construction including rough cabling above and below grade, various types of backbone distribution, and the construction, termination, and testing of copper and fiber cabling systems. Effective communication with all parties involved in a project is essential to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of assignments. Additionally, the technician will evaluate the performance of fellow employees with lesser skill levels, contributing to a culture of growth and development within the team. Responsibilities

  • Directs and works with journeymen and helpers.
  • Plans work and is responsible for materials and tools.
  • Installs all work effectively, completely, and in a neat and workmanlike manner.
  • Troubleshoots all telecommunication systems.
  • Monitors the progress of work.
  • Does layout work from blueprints, shop drawings, and schematics.
  • Handles all phases of telecom construction including rough cabling above/below grade, backbone distribution, MDF/IDF construction, termination, and testing of copper and fiber cabling systems.
  • Communicates effectively with all persons and parties involved with a project to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of assignments.
  • Evaluates fellow employees of a lesser skill level.

Requirements

  • Mid-level experience in commercial construction.
  • Ability to positively identify colors of wires.
  • Comprehension of written documents, specifications, drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proficient in using power tools such as saws, wire pullers, and powder-actuated tools.
  • Capable of digging trenches using hand tools or power equipment.
  • Safe operation of equipment such as trenchers, skip loaders, and forklifts.
  • Practices and comprehends safe work procedures, hazard communication, accident reporting, and investigation as outlined in the safety guide.
  • Ability to operate two-handed tools and equipment such as cable cutters, hammer drills, shovels, picks, compression tools, and jackhammers.
  • Ability to operate company trucks with either manual or automatic transmission.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, specifications, and work site directions.
  • Ability to operate and work from electric or gas-powered mechanical personnel lifts.
