Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Telecommunications Specialist to join our dedicated team. This role is crucial in ensuring effective communication within the hospital by operating and routing traffic on various communication systems, including telephone, radio paging, public address paging, and operator workstations. The Telecommunications Specialist is responsible for keeping information current and performing system backups, which are essential for maintaining the integrity of our communication systems. Given the nature of the role, the specialist will interact constantly with the public, necessitating a professional, helpful, and courteous demeanor while maintaining confidentiality at all times. The position requires a strong sense of teamwork and support, as the specialist will often work in unique situations that demand clear, objective thinking and self-empowerment. The role requires flexibility, as the specialist will work any shift at any time to meet departmental requirements, including night shifts and weekends. Aspirus Wausau Hospital, the flagship of the Aspirus system, serves patients across 14 counties in northern and central Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. As a licensed private, not-for-profit facility with 325 beds, we are staffed by 350 physicians across 35 specialties. Our hospital is a Level II trauma center, providing primary, secondary, and tertiary care services as a regional referral center. We emphasize specialty referral services in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedics, and cancer care. With an average daily inpatient census of 220 and approximately 15,000 admissions per year, we also handle over 50,000 outpatient visits and more than 24,000 annual emergency department visits. Responsibilities

  • Operate and route traffic on various communications systems including telephone, radio paging, and public address paging.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of switchboard and communication practices acquired through experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; previous switchboard or information systems experience is beneficial.
  • Excellent working knowledge of computer operations and typing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to function under pressure and establish priorities.
