The Telecommunications Equipment Installer position at PG&E is a critical role within the Information Systems Technology Services department, which is dedicated to delivering high-quality technology solutions. This position involves the installation, retirement, and removal of telecommunications equipment, working closely with qualified technicians to ensure the proper functioning of various telecommunications systems. The role requires a hands-on approach, as installers will be responsible for tasks such as cable and wire terminations, equipment rack installations, and the setup of seismic and support bracing. Additionally, the installer will assist in the installation and maintenance of mobile and microwave radios, data telemetry systems, and fiber optic systems, among others. This position is classified under the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245, which has a long-standing history of representing employees at PG&E. As a General Construction position, it requires flexibility, as individuals may need to travel and transfer to different headquarters within the PG&E service territory. The company emphasizes the importance of local representation, giving preference to applicants residing within 50 miles of the job location. The hourly rate for this position starts at $48.04, with potential increases based on collective bargaining agreements and individual qualifications. Responsibilities

  • Installs, retires or removes telecommunications equipment including cable and wire terminations and testing, equipment racks, equipment shelves, seismic and support bracing, wire DC power distribution, and telephone key equipment.
  • Assists a Telecommunications Technician in installing, testing, retiring, or removing mobile and microwave radios with antennas and transmission lines, data telemetry and supervisory systems, dial exchanges, multi-plex, alarm systems, fiber optic systems, and battery and charging systems.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License
  • Ability to work in all types of weather extremes
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds a minimum of one time a day
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to work with and/or around helicopters, bucket trucks and substations
  • Must be able to climb towers and be comfortable with heights
  • Able and willing to perform physical activities as mentioned in the job posting (with accommodation, if required)
  • Able and willing to work in, with and around water
  • Work around poison oak, snakes, spiders, and insects.

Nice-to-haves
