About the position

The Telecommunications/Network Technician III position at the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) involves providing complex technical support and systems administration for local and wide area networks. The role includes responsibilities such as configuring, installing, and troubleshooting network hardware and software, as well as providing customer service through a help desk function. The technician will also be involved in network design and implementation, ensuring connectivity and functionality of telecommunications systems.

Responsibilities

• Configure, install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and monitor LAN hardware/software including desktop computers and communication systems.
• Identify and resolve network and telecommunication system malfunctions, ensuring connectivity and functionality.
• Provide customer service through a central service desk/help desk function to resolve problems and maintain a database of user issues and resolutions.
• Perform routine network systems administration including user management, security compliance, and inventory control.
• Plan, schedule, install, and test software updates and hardware upgrades, conducting needs analysis for network changes.

Requirements

• At least two years experience administering computer data networks including troubleshooting and resolving network problems.
• At least two years experience installing, testing, and configuring computer data networks and associated wiring.
• Knowledge of computer data network design or redesign.
