About the position

The Telecommunications/Network Technician Supervisor oversees a team of technicians providing desktop support to users within the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. This role involves planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of staff, ensuring customer service goals are met, and coordinating support with IT and business resources. The supervisor also provides senior-level support through a central help desk function and maintains a database of user problems and resolutions, while performing complex network systems administration tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Telecommunications/Network Technicians staff providing desktop support.
  • Assist technicians with IT solutions and ensure customer service goals are met.
  • Coordinate support with other IT and business resources.
  • Provide customer service and senior-level support through a central help desk function.
  • Maintain a database of user problems and resolutions.
  • Provide on-site support for network technologists/engineers associated with the LAN.
  • Independently perform complex network systems administration tasks.
  • Configure, install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and monitor LAN hardware/software.
  • Identify and resolve network and telecommunication system malfunctions.
  • Perform routine network systems administration including user and hardware/software management.
  • Plan, schedule, install, and test software updates and hardware upgrades.

Requirements

  • Three years experience in administering computer data networks, including troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software problems.
  • Three years experience in installing, testing, and configuring computer data networks and associated wiring.
  • Knowledge of information technology project management, including planning, scheduling, and monitoring IT projects.
  • Knowledge of computer data network design or redesign.
  • Knowledge of staff supervision through coursework or experience in overseeing the work of others.
