About the position
The Telecommunications Officer/Dispatcher at the Port of Galveston is responsible for monitoring activities throughout the port using Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) and managing communications via a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. This role involves tracking vessel movements for billing purposes and responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, ensuring safety and security within the port environment.
Responsibilities
- Receiving emergency and non-emergency calls requesting police assistance and services.
- Monitoring and transmitting radio traffic via multiple open air channels.
- Monitoring a VHF marine traffic radio channel for interfacing with vessels requesting assistance.
- Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite to generate daily reports for vessel activity for the Port's accounting department.
- Monitoring a computerized security system with electronic door locks and safety alarms.
- Learning regulations of maritime domain awareness and Federal guidelines for maritime security.
- Monitoring and operating the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) Computer System for security-sensitive data.
- Tracking and timekeeping of all vessels docking and departing the Port of Galveston.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated computer skills, particularly with Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to multi-task and work a flexible schedule.
- Pass a criminal background check and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Meet criteria for obtaining FBI clearance for TCIC.
