About the position
The Telemetry Technician at Valley View Medical Center plays a crucial role in supporting the nursing staff by monitoring cardiac rhythms of patients placed on telemetry. This position involves continual surveillance of multiple monitors, identifying significant arrhythmias, and reporting any abnormal findings to the nursing staff. The technician is also responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of equipment and performing various duties related to the nursing unit in accordance with hospital policies.
Responsibilities
- Assist professional nursing staff by monitoring cardiac rhythms for patients on telemetry.
- Perform continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
- Identify significant arrhythmias and signs of patient distress and intervene appropriately.
- Report abnormal assessment and telemetry findings to nursing staff.
- Test equipment for proper working order and report any issues to the supervisor.
- Perform various duties related to the assigned nursing unit in accordance with established hospital policies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Must complete telemetry certification and pass the 'Basic EKG Interpretation' exam at time of hire.
- Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment.
