About the position
The Telemetry Technician at Valley View Medical Center plays a crucial role in monitoring cardiac rhythms for patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. This position is essential for ensuring patient safety by identifying significant arrhythmias and signs of distress, and intervening as necessary. The technician will also be responsible for testing equipment and reporting any issues, contributing to the overall care and service delivery in a state-of-the-art hospital environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor cardiac rhythms for patients on telemetry under the supervision of an RN.
- Perform continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
- Identify significant arrhythmias and signs of patient distress and intervene appropriately.
- Report abnormal assessment and telemetry findings to nursing staff.
- Test equipment for proper working order and report any problems to the supervisor.
- Perform various duties related to the assigned nursing unit in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, or obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Must complete telemetry certification and pass the 'Basic EKG Interpretation' exam at time of hire.
- Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment.
