The Telemetry Technician monitors cardiac rhythms of patients using telemetric equipment. This role involves interpreting basic cardiac rhythms, identifying common dysrhythmias, and monitoring for mechanical malfunctions. The technician is responsible for running monitor strips every four hours, measuring and documenting the PR, QRS, and QT intervals, and posting these strips on the chart. Additionally, the technician assumes secretarial duties, answers phones, and notifies the RN of any arrhythmias and cardiac changes. The position requires a commitment to patient advocacy, ensuring patient rights, confidentiality, and privacy are upheld. The technician must also maintain knowledge and skills related to their practice and adhere to hospital and department standards, demonstrating appropriate behavior in critical situations.
