About the position

The News Assignment Editor at Entravision Communications Corporation plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of the assignments desk. This full-time position is based in Denver, Colorado, and involves assisting in the production of newscasts, as well as producing shows when required. The successful candidate will coordinate interviews and logistics for field crews, facilitating the news gathering process to ensure comprehensive coverage of all news stories across various platforms, including broadcast, digital, and web. In this role, the editor will participate in editorial meetings, develop enterprise story ideas that align with the news brand, and cultivate important contacts within the market, including law enforcement. Monitoring police and emergency scanners, as well as electronic and printed sources for news, is essential, as is disseminating this information to the appropriate newsroom personnel. The editor will also cooperate with and support news and online platforms as assigned, and will be responsible for producing newscasts when necessary. The position requires solid news judgment, strong writing and research skills, and the ability to solve problems and prioritize decisions effectively. The editor must manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high-pressure, breaking news environment, demonstrating a basic understanding of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, including knowledge of libel, slander, and applicable FCC rules and regulations. Good collaborative and interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively at all levels, and an understanding of emerging news production techniques and technology is beneficial. The ability to work well in a team environment is also essential.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Experience in the market and familiarity with the region's audience and communities.
  • Experience using online and social media resources as news researching tools.
  • Experience with newsroom computer applications.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in writing skills.
  • Valid Driver's License.
