About the position

The position is responsible for providing a variety of payment and receiving functions within a Credit Union environment. This includes processing deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, cashiers' checks, money orders, and cash advances. The teller will balance each day's transactions and verify cash totals, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all operations. The role requires performing specific assigned side-jobs and assisting other tellers with various duties as required. The teller will also perform the most complex functions as needed, ensuring that all Members are served promptly and professionally. Excellent Member service is a priority, with a focus on using consultative sales techniques to retain Members and build loyalty. The teller must follow cash control guidelines and safeguard both Credit Union and Member assets, while adhering to established policies and procedures. In this role, the teller assumes responsibility for the efficient, effective, and accurate performance of teller functions within an advanced level of authority. This includes representing the Credit Union in a courteous and professional manner, identifying payees and Members by verifying signatures and endorsements, and receiving share deposits and loan payments in person. The teller will process various transactions, including cash advances, travelers' checks, cashiers' checks, and money orders, while disbursing cash or check share withdrawals. Completing Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) as required, processing transfers, and following established procedures for wire transfers are also key responsibilities. The teller will monitor deposit amounts, examine documents for endorsement and negotiability, and detect and resolve discrepancies promptly. The position requires establishing and maintaining effective, professional business relations with Members, ensuring that their requests and questions are resolved promptly. The teller will operate an online teller terminal, provide information regarding account status, and process changes to account information as needed. Maintaining the privacy of Member account information and ensuring the Credit Union's quality reputation is upheld are essential aspects of the role. The teller will also coordinate with area personnel and management, keeping supervisors informed of activities and any significant problems or concerns. Completing required reports and records accurately and promptly is necessary, along with performing drive-up teller and night drop functions as assigned. The teller will assist the Head Teller as needed, provide support to member service representatives, and cross-sell Credit Union services as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Process cash advances, travelers' checks, cashiers' checks, money orders, and similar transactions.
  • Disburse cash or check share withdrawals in person.
  • Complete CTRs as required and process transfers.
  • Order checks for Members' accounts and follow procedures for wire transfers.
  • Take stop payment orders and open/close sub shares daily.
  • Monitor deposit amounts and examine documents for endorsement and negotiability.
  • Detect and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Establish and maintain effective, professional business relations with Members.
  • Ensure Members' requests and questions are promptly resolved.
  • Operate online teller terminal and provide information regarding account status.
  • Process changes of name, addresses, and other account information as needed.
  • Inform Members of Credit Union services and policies, including eligibility for membership and types of available accounts.
  • Maintain privacy of Member account information and ensure the Credit Union's quality reputation is maintained.
  • Keep supervisor informed of area activities and significant problems or concerns.
  • Complete required reports and records accurately and promptly.
  • Perform drive-up teller and night drop functions as assigned.
  • Assist Head Teller and provide support to member service representatives when needed.
  • Cross-sell Credit Union services and load/balance the cash dispatch machine when needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • 0-1 year of relevant experience in the financial industry, preferably in credit unions.
  • Experience in teller cash handling and cash dispense machines is preferred.
  • Experience in sales is preferred.
  • Excellent member service and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Effective basic math and phone skills are required.
  • Ability to read documents and communicate clearly is necessary.
  • Ability to take initiative and work in a team environment is important.
  • Responsible, detail-oriented, and goal-oriented with competent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient typing and 10-key skills are required.
