This is a temporary position with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) that is expected to end on 08/31/2025. The selected candidate will be required to sign a Temporary Employment Agreement upon hire. Once hired, temporary employees may be eligible to transfer to a regular status vacant position, contingent upon regular status position availability, tenure, and job performance. The role is designed for individuals who are highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated to assisting vulnerable citizens of Texas in need of food, medical care, cash assistance, and other social services. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Access and Eligibility Services (AES) division is seeking individuals to join a dynamic team that operates in a high-performing and innovative environment. As a Texas Works Advisor I (TWA I) / Medical Eligibility Specialist I (MES I) / Hospital Base Worker I (HBW I), you will receive paid, formal training to perform essential job functions such as interviewing applicants and recipients to obtain pertinent financial and personal information, evaluating data from various sources, computing and authorizing benefits based on eligibility determination, and processing work in accordance with state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and a positive attitude, along with a strong work ethic and a desire to help others.
