About the position

The Temporary Admissions Recruiter at Bridgewater State University (BSU) plays a crucial role in the recruitment of new first-year and transfer undergraduate students. This position is designed to enhance the university's outreach efforts by representing BSU at various college fairs and high school events throughout Massachusetts and New England. The Admissions Recruiter will engage with prospective students and their families, providing them with essential information regarding admission criteria, application processes, financial aid, academic programs, and campus resources. The role requires a proactive approach to foster relationships with potential students, encouraging them to visit the campus and submit their applications. The Admissions Recruiter will be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive understanding of BSU's offerings, including its programs and admission policies. This knowledge is vital for effectively communicating the benefits of attending BSU to prospective students. The position involves extensive travel, often requiring overnight stays and working during evenings and weekends. The recruiter will also be tasked with keeping accurate records of recruitment activities and events within their assigned territory. This temporary position is non-benefited and offers a bi-weekly stipend of $1,850, with additional support for travel expenses provided by the university. The contract for this position is set to begin on September 1, 2024, and will conclude on December 1, 2024, with no option for renewal. The Admissions Recruiter will report directly to the Dean of Admissions and will be expected to perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the Office of Admission at BSU.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a strong working knowledge of BSU, its programs, opportunities and admission policies.
  • Plan and participate in high school visits, college fairs and other recruitment activities.
  • Represent the university knowledgeably, articulately and enthusiastically with an effective professional demeanor.
  • Foster relationships with prospective students and their families to encourage campus visits and application submission.
  • Maintain accurate visit and recruiting records for all events in assigned territory.
  • Extensive travel in Massachusetts and out-of-state, frequently overnight, while working evening hours and occasional weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1-2 years of experience in higher education or related field.
  • Possession of a valid/clean U.S. driver's license to rent and operate a motor vehicle with ability to travel extensively within the Northeastern United States.
  • Ability to travel overnights while working evening hours and occasional weekends.
  • Ability to walk, stand for long periods, lift and carry boxes that weigh 25 lbs. or more with or without accommodation.
  • Work well independently and as a member of a team.
  • Strong computer literacy, must demonstrate solid judgment, organizational, time management, and public speaking skills.
  • Sensitive to cultural diversity and backgrounds.
