About the position

CBS News and Stations is seeking a high-energy, solid news person for the role of AFTRA Network Anchor & Reporter. This position is part-time and involves anchoring six-minute network radio newscasts once an hour, as well as one-minute updates at the bottom of the hour. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and recording news segments, gathering, writing, recording, editing, and delivering news content, and providing live coverage during breaking news events. The role requires strong writing skills, solid news judgment, and the ability to develop major national and international stories while pursuing newsmakers to enhance the network's award-winning news brand. This position will also involve working weekends and overnight hours, as well as making station appearances as required. In addition to anchoring, the reporter will be tasked with writing scripts and ad-libbing material for stories under tight deadlines, conducting interviews with newsmakers, and collaborating with sales and promotions departments to develop sponsored news packages. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5+ years of experience in anchoring or reporting news for broadcast, with radio experience being a plus. Proficiency in audio editing and packaging news sound and interviews is essential, along with contemporary sound and excellent on-air delivery. A four-year degree in journalism is preferred, and knowledge of the broadcast area and station demographics is crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Anchoring six-minute network radio newscasts once an hour and one-minute bottom of the hour Network Updates.
  • When news warrants, anchor one-minute to 90-second Special Reports as many as 3 times an hour.
  • Producing and recording news segments.
  • Gathering, writing, recording, editing and delivering news content, including providing live coverage when breaking news occurs.
  • Interviewing newsmakers.
  • Writing scripts and ad-libbing material for stories under tight deadlines.
  • Development and research of potential news stories.
  • Making station appearances as required.
  • Working with sales and promotions departments to develop sponsored news packages.
  • Other duties as required by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years anchoring or reporting news for news broadcast.
  • Radio experience is a plus.
  • Must be computer literate and have excellent writing skills.
  • Proficiency in audio editing and packaging news sound and interviews is required.
  • Contemporary sound and excellent on-air delivery are essential.
  • Knowledge of the broadcast area and station demographics is essential.
  • 4-year degree in journalism preferred.
  • Ability to work weekends and overnights.

Benefits

  • Union Scale Day Rate $515/Day for Anchor; $420/Day for In-House Reporter/AFTRA union.
  • Hiring Salary Range: $52.50 - 64.38, depending on job-related factors.
