About the position

The AFTRA Network Anchor & Reporter position at CBS News involves part-time anchoring and in-house reporting, requiring strong writing skills and news judgment. The role focuses on delivering high-quality journalism through various platforms, including radio and digital streaming, and involves working weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Anchoring six-minute network radio newscasts once an hour and one-minute bottom of the hour Network Updates.
  • Producing and recording news segments.
  • Gathering, writing, recording, editing, and delivering news content, including live coverage during breaking news.
  • Interviewing newsmakers and writing scripts for stories under tight deadlines.
  • Developing and researching potential news stories.
  • Making station appearances as required.
  • Working with sales and promotions departments to develop sponsored news packages.
  • Performing other duties as required by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years anchoring or reporting news for news broadcasts.
  • Proficiency in audio editing and packaging news sound and interviews.
  • Excellent writing skills and contemporary sound with excellent on-air delivery.
  • Knowledge of the broadcast area and station demographics is essential.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism preferred.
  • Ability to work weekends and overnights.

  • Radio experience is a plus.
  • Computer literacy and strong writing skills.
