The Temporary Custodian I position is a vital role within the Public Works Department, responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in various City buildings and facilities. Under the supervision of the Public Works Supervisor - Facilities or their designee, the custodian will perform a wide range of janitorial duties to ensure that assigned areas are kept in a clean and sanitary condition. This role is classified as a working level position, meaning that incumbents will engage in hands-on cleaning tasks while adhering to established guidelines and safety protocols. The custodian will be tasked with inspecting work areas to ensure that assignments are completed properly. Duties include general custodial tasks such as cleaning and sanitizing offices, hallways, restrooms, conference rooms, and breakrooms. The role requires the use of various cleaning techniques and equipment, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, scrubbing, and buffing floors, as well as vacuuming and shampooing carpets. Additionally, custodians will be responsible for dusting and cleaning office furniture, windows, and light fixtures, as well as moving and arranging furniture as needed. Custodians will also perform security checks of buildings, report any unauthorized individuals, and ensure that all lights and doors are secured at the end of the workday.
