About the position

The Temporary Data Engineer position within the Office of Information Technology at UT Dallas focuses on creating a data hub utilizing cloud technologies such as AWS Lake Formation and Azure Data Lake. The role requires expertise in data management, cloud platforms, and data integration techniques, aimed at enhancing the Enterprise Data Services Team's capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement a data hub using AWS Lake Formation, AWS Glue, CloudFormation, AWS DataZone, or Azure Data Lake with Synapse, Data Factory, or Fabric.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines to ingest, process, and store data from multiple sources.
  • Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of the data hub to ensure efficient data processing and retrieval.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for data-related issues.
  • Document data architecture, processes, and workflows for future reference and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with various departments to understand database requirements and ensure seamless data integration.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for supported database environments, both during regular business hours and off-hours.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • At least two years of Data Engineering experience.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing data solutions using AWS Lake Formation, AWS Glue, AWS DataZone, Azure Data Lake with Synapse, Data Factory, or Fabric.
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, data integration, and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL, and experience with Apache Spark.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their data services.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, particularly PowerBI.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of database governance and security best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with other data technologies and tools such as Hadoop, Spark, Databricks.
