About the position

The Temporary Database Administrator position within the Office of Information Technology at UT Dallas involves managing relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL in both on-premises and cloud environments. The role requires a strong background in database management, cloud platforms, and scripting techniques, with a focus on data engineering. This temporary position is funded through August 31, 2025, and candidates are encouraged to apply for either the Database Administrator or Temporary Data Engineer roles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain RDBMS including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL on-premises and in AWS and Azure environments.
  • Develop and maintain scripts using Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell to automate database tasks and processes.
  • Ensure database quality, security, and compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of databases to ensure efficient data processing and retrieval.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues.
  • Document database architecture, processes, and workflows for future reference and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with various departments to understand database requirements and ensure seamless data integration.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • At least two years of DBA experience.
  • Proven experience in managing and maintaining RDBMS such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
  • Strong understanding of database management principles, data integration, and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their database services.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of database governance and security best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Experience with other database technologies and tools.
