About the position

The University of Texas at Dallas is seeking a Temporary Database Administrator to join the Enterprise Data Services Team within the Office of Information Technology. This role involves managing relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL in both on-premises and cloud environments like AWS and Azure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management and data engineering, with responsibilities including database maintenance, scripting, and ensuring data quality and security.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain RDBMS including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL on-premises and in AWS and Azure environments.
  • Develop and maintain scripts using Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell to automate database tasks and processes.
  • Ensure database quality, security, and compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of databases to ensure efficient data processing and retrieval.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues.
  • Document database architecture, processes, and workflows for future reference and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with various departments to understand database requirements and ensure seamless data integration.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • At least two years of DBA experience managing RDBMS such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
  • Strong understanding of database management principles, data integration, and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their database services.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of database governance and security best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques.
