About the position
The position involves driving a box truck or similar delivery vehicle to transport library materials. The successful applicant will be responsible for loading and unloading items, following designated delivery routes, and ensuring vehicle maintenance and safety. This role requires adherence to safety practices and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Loads and unloads delivery bins, boxes, and other items.
- Drives truck on residential streets and freeways to make deliveries according to a designated route.
- Inspects vehicle, checking lights, tires, horn, emergency equipment and exterior for damage.
- Reports equipment damage or failure and may perform minor maintenance tasks on delivery truck.
- Fuels and cleans vehicle.
- Operates hand truck or other light equipment to move library materials on dock and in libraries.
- Assists with other departmental functions as needed to cover absences or equalize workload.
Requirements
- One (1) year of related experience driving box truck or other similar delivery vehicles.
- Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.
- Must pass initial and annual driver's license review and complete driver safety training.
- Must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of standard safety practices in lifting and storing materials and operating machines.
- Defensive driving techniques and Utah traffic laws.
- Vehicle maintenance procedures, needs and mechanical operations.
