About the position

The University of Georgia is seeking a Temporary Field/Research Assistant to support various agricultural and research activities within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The assistant will be involved in a variety of tasks that contribute to the upkeep of the farm, assist in research trials, and support the overall functionality of the agricultural operations. The role requires a hands-on approach to farm management, including maintaining the appearance of the farm, assisting with land preparation, and performing necessary repairs on farm equipment. The assistant will also be responsible for data entry and other administrative tasks related to farm operations. The position is based in the Tifton area and will involve working outdoors in various weather conditions. The ideal candidate should be prepared to engage in physical labor and possess a willingness to learn about agricultural practices and research methodologies. Responsibilities

  • Maintaining farm appearance - mowing, weed control, picking up trash
  • Assist with farm duties - land prep, irrigation set up, collect soil samples, assist with different trial projects as needed
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance on irrigation, farm machinery, buildings, & farm vehicles
  • Assist in cleaning farm office, farm shop floors, bathrooms, etc.
  • Assist with all computer operations - data entry, word documents, inventory

Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Basic knowledge of agricultural practices and farm maintenance
  • Experience with data entry and computer operations
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Willingness to learn and assist with various tasks as needed

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a farm or agricultural setting
