About The Position
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is seeking a Temporary Highway Maintenance Specialist for the winter season in Salida, CO. This position is vital for ensuring the safety and accessibility of Colorado's roadways during winter weather conditions. As a Highway Maintenance Specialist, you will engage in a variety of tasks that change daily based on project needs, weather, and road conditions. Your responsibilities will include operating heavy equipment, plowing snow, mowing grass, and performing maintenance on roadways and related infrastructure. You will work in a team environment, often on-call to respond to emergencies, and will be expected to follow safety protocols diligently. Your daily activities will involve using heavy machinery such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, and tractors, as well as performing manual labor tasks like shoveling gravel, filling potholes, and installing highway markers. The role requires a commitment to safety and effective communication, especially in critical situations. You will also be responsible for maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs, ensuring that all tools and machinery are in good working order. This position is temporary, lasting a maximum of 9 months, and offers a competitive hourly wage of $25.17.
