About the position

The Temporary Prep Cook position at Gilliam Youth Services Center involves performing food production work within the Division of Youth Services Food Services Department. The role is essential for preparing and serving meals to youth in a secure facility, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. This is a temporary full-time position lasting up to nine months, requiring flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food that is attractive, appetizing, and at proper temperatures according to DYS menus and recipes.
• Document recipe changes and submit them to the facility food service manager.
• Set up and tear down the serving line as needed, garnishing food appropriately.
• Identify and report potential safety and security issues to supervisory staff.
• Follow sanitation procedures for food handling and cleaning the food service area.
• Inspect food and supplies upon arrival and manage inventory using FIFO methods.
• Attend training and meetings to stay updated on procedural changes and compliance with DYS policies.

Requirements

• One year of food services experience including hosting, serving, delivering, cashiering, prepping, and cooking.
• Ability to read and follow written information including policies, procedures, recipes, and menus.
• Good knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and necessary precautionary measures.
