About the position

The Maintenance Engineer II position at WKBW, the Scripps ABC station in Baltimore, MD, is a temporary, part-time role focused on performing preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on various video, audio, IT, and HD equipment, with a strong emphasis on news-gathering equipment. The role requires working 24 hours per week from November 11th through December 31st, and involves both technical and operational responsibilities in a dynamic broadcasting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs of video, audio, and RF systems, with an emphasis on news equipment.
  • Install video, audio, IT, HD, and RF equipment.
  • Update technical plan documentation upon completion of installations.
  • Administer computer-based audio/video/control systems and configure software applications as needed.
  • Document and maintain records of equipment repairs.
  • Research part numbers and pricing for purchasing and repair costs.
  • Perform IT operations, assistance, and installations as needed.
  • Run cables and connectors as required.
  • Participate in the weekly on-call engineer schedule, which may involve after-hours duties.
  • Perform live truck repairs in confined spaces and on top of vehicles using a mobile work platform.
  • Perform other duties as needed and directed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred.
  • Generally, 2+ years of experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with various test instruments and alignment apparatuses.
  • Operational knowledge of television station equipment.
  • Self-motivated with good time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively identify and solve basic problems as they occur.
  • Ability to comprehend schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
