About the position

The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is seeking a Temporary Research Analyst II in the Environmental Sciences department. This position involves developing specific plans for experiments within the assigned laboratory and area of study. The successful candidate will be responsible for reading relevant literature, modifying and adapting procedures to meet project objectives, and conducting experiments independently. The role requires a strong theoretical knowledge base to effectively work in the area of inquiry, as well as independent judgment in planning and executing experimental details. The Research Analyst will also be tasked with recording and interpreting data from experiments, both their own and those of others. In addition to conducting experiments, the Research Analyst may be responsible for training and supervising other technicians or students in specific phases of experiments. This work will be performed under the general supervision of a principal investigator, who will review the work through periodic conferences and reports, focusing on its contribution to the project's objectives. The position is temporary and will be based on departmental needs, with the possibility of continuation. However, temporary assignments cannot exceed 11 consecutive months without a full 31-day break from employment. Candidates should have a graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a related science and at least three years of laboratory experience in the relevant research area. Hands-on experience in the specific area of work assigned is essential. This position is nonexempt and offers an anticipated hiring range of $15 per hour. Temporary employees are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave, but they are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines.

Responsibilities
