About the position

The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the health care team, providing professional nursing care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. This role emphasizes quality and effectiveness in clinical practice while treating all individuals with dignity and respect. The nurse is expected to demonstrate leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving skills, while also ensuring patient safety and optimal care outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures and applicable laws.
  • Serve as a leader of the health care team, delegating tasks appropriately and demonstrating accountability.
  • Understand own and team members' scope of practice and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate professional and supportive behavior, championing new ideas and leading through change.
  • Utilize communication strategies to achieve intended outcomes and participate in problem identification and resolution.
  • Mentor, orient, and coach others in unit-specific operations and patient care activities.
  • Share responsibility and authority with subordinates and hold them accountable for performance.
  • Demonstrate ability to problem-solve with other departments for member resolution.
  • Prioritize, delegate, and supervise work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Develop and contribute to individualized plans of care, ensuring multidisciplinary planning and education.
  • Monitor patient progress and revise care plans based on ongoing evaluations.
  • Ensure effective discharge planning and patient/family education.
  • Ensure patient safety related to medications and procedures, and optimal pain control.
  • Document accurately and legibly, reflecting nursing processes and interventions.
  • Discuss patient findings and progress with physicians and health care team members.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement activities.
  • Adhere to workplace safety principles and maintain a safe environment for self and others.
  • Practice customer service standards and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Provide an optimal patient care experience by actively listening to patients and families.
  • Act as an effective team member, confronting conflicts constructively and accepting accountability.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Proven experience in a clinical nursing role.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of nursing processes and patient care standards.
  • Experience in patient education and discharge planning.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in a specialty area of nursing (e.g., ACLS, PALS).
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Bilingual skills to communicate with diverse patient populations.
