The Temporary Security Guard position at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is a non-sworn role focused on ensuring the safety and security of the university's faculty, staff, students, and guests. This position involves patrolling the buildings and grounds of the UNCW main campus and other properties owned or leased by the university. The Security Guard will conduct foot patrols in assigned areas, which may include academic buildings, Randall Library, and Crest Research Park. Responsibilities include locking and unlocking facilities as scheduled, identifying potential security risks, and making appropriate notifications to the police or other authorities when necessary. The Security Guard will also respond to calls for service, assist police officers, and enforce parking violations as needed. In addition to these duties, the Security Guard will assist in training new security personnel, direct traffic during congested periods or special events, and provide escort services for university faculty, staff, students, and guests. The role also includes providing crime prevention programming and assisting guests and visitors with directions and information. The position may require travel between different UNCW properties, and the Security Guard will perform any other related duties as assigned. This is a night shift position, requiring availability for shifts from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, up to 38 hours, and the requirement to work at least two weekends per month.
