About the position

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business is seeking a Temporary Social Media Manager for the Roman Family Center for Decision Research (RF-CDR). This role is pivotal in managing the center's social media presence and communicating its mission effectively. The RF-CDR focuses on understanding how individuals make decisions and form judgments, and the Social Media Manager will play a crucial role in promoting the center's work, particularly its public discovery center, Mindworks: The Science of Thinking. In this position, the Social Media Manager will collaborate closely with the RF-CDR's communications team, including the Director of Operations and External Relations, as well as the Senior Associate Director of Communications. The primary responsibility will be to create, execute, and manage a comprehensive social media strategy across various platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok. The goal is to enhance the visibility of the center and increase visitor traffic and participation in research initiatives. The Social Media Manager will also be responsible for translating the center's work and mission into engaging content that resonates with a broad audience. This includes providing information about behavioral science, the nature of experimental research, and the significance of the Mindworks exhibits. The role requires a proactive approach to outreach and advertising initiatives to attract visitors to Mindworks, ensuring that the center's objectives are met effectively. This is a part-time, temporary position requiring approximately 10-20 hours of work per week, with a hybrid work schedule. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of social media dynamics, and the ability to collaborate professionally with faculty, students, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the social media presence of the Roman Family Center for Decision Research, including the digital properties associated with Mindworks: The Science of Thinking.
  • Work closely with the center's Director of Operations and External Relations and the Senior Associate Director of Communications to create, execute, and manage the social media strategy for the center.
  • Plan, build, maintain, and grow the Mindworks social media presence, including the Mindworks Instagram and TikTok feed, to increase visitor traffic and participation in research.
  • Translate the work and mission of the RF-CDR and Mindworks to a broad audience through multiple media and formats.
  • Provide information to Mindworks audiences and visitors about behavioral science, the nature and purpose of experimental research, and the importance of each of the Mindworks exhibits.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for the CDR during engagement with audiences and visitors.
  • Support outreach and advertising initiatives to attract visitors to Mindworks, when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, organizational behavior, or marketing preferred.
  • Proven experience creating and managing social media content for a company, organization, or public-facing group required.
  • Familiarity with methods of social science research experimentation preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Technical knowledge in multimedia editing applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premier, Canva, Instagram, and TikTok required.
