About the position
The position involves safely operating haul trucks to transport materials within a mining environment. The role requires performing inspections, understanding safety procedures, and executing assignments from a computerized dispatch system. The operator will also receive training and feedback from experienced personnel and may operate other heavy equipment as needed.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate haul trucks to transport materials from loading areas to processing areas.
- Perform inspections to maximize equipment and tire life.
- Execute assignments from computerized dispatch system and/or two-way radio.
- Receive training, mentoring, and feedback from other operators, supervisors, and equipment trainers.
- Understand changes to assigned work areas and potential hazards.
- Know procedures for start-up and shut-down, fueling, fire, runaway, emergency, and accident.
- Have knowledge of payload measurement system, over speed alarm, dispatch codes, shovel and truck horn signals, secondary brake, and park brake.
- Perform tasks such as spotting at shovel, loading, transporting material, dumping on stockpiles, and dumping at crusher.
- Operate other heavy equipment as needed, including water trucks, motor graders, and dozers.
- Assist with operations support activities, such as housekeeping, barricading, cable moves, and ground support activities.
- Perform minor maintenance activities as required.
Requirements
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
- Ability to communicate in English regarding job assignments, procedures, and safety standards.
