About the position

The Texas Works Advisor I position is a temporary role within the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) focused on assisting vulnerable citizens in accessing essential social services such as food, medical care, and cash assistance. The role involves conducting interviews, evaluating eligibility for public assistance programs, and providing best-in-class customer service in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interview applicants and recipients to obtain financial and personal information for eligibility determination.
  • Evaluate data from various sources and enter information into a computer-based eligibility system.
  • Compute and authorize benefits based on eligibility determinations.
  • Process work in accordance with state and federal regulations and established procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • One year of customer service experience with public contact is required.
  • Experience in interviewing clients and gathering personal information is preferred.
  • Ability to operate computers and use basic office software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Sixty semester or ninety quarter hours from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Experience in a retail, call center, clerical, hospitality, banking, or receptionist environment.
