About the position

The Tennis Pro Shop Assistant at Houston Country Club is responsible for providing exceptional service to members and guests while assisting in the daily operations of the pro shop. This role involves promoting tennis programs, managing inventory, and ensuring a welcoming shopping experience. The assistant will work closely with the Head Tennis Professional and Pro Shop Manager to maintain shop organization and cleanliness, handle special orders, and support the tennis operations team.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist members and guests as they enter the tennis shop.
  • Manage special orders and invoicing.
  • Assist with buying for a single store location.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels.
  • Assist with receiving and display of stock apparel and merchandise orders.
  • Assist with development and growth of corporate merchandise sales.
  • Ensure the shop is ready for operation and remains in good order throughout the day.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all displays throughout the day.
  • Assist the tennis operations team with daily operations at the tennis shop, including member billing and court reservation management.
  • Answer all phone calls in a courteous and professional manner, addressing tennis operation needs.
  • Manage traffic in a high-paced environment.
  • Embrace a culture of creating a memorable and welcoming atmosphere upon arrival and departure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head Tennis Professional & Managers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Related experience and/or training in the retail industry.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is beneficial.
  • Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Ability to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fashion or retail background is beneficial.
