About the position

The Department of Early, Middle, and Elementary Education at Millersville University is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in January 2025 or August 2025. This role focuses on teaching, advising students, engaging in scholarly work, and contributing to departmental and university service, particularly in the area of literacy education, including structured literacy and ESL. The position requires a commitment to high-quality literacy training and involves teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, with a teaching load of four courses per semester.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy education.
• Advise students and supervise clinical field experiences.
• Engage in scholarly or creative work related to literacy and ESL education.
• Participate in department and university service activities.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate in Literacy Education or a related field.
• Minimum of three years of successful full-time PK-12 teaching experience.
• Evidence of completed doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) within 3 years.
• Recent and ongoing record of scholarship, including national conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for advising and working with students.
• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and public-school personnel.

Nice-to-haves

• At least five years of experience in early childhood and/or middle level public school classrooms.
• Reading Specialist certificate or equivalent.
• ESL Specialist certification or graduate coursework in ESL instruction.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness in traditional and online formats.
• Experience supervising clinical field experiences.
